A straightforward no-nonsense remedial therapy that is non-intrusive, gentle and very effective
A Bowen Technique treatment affects the body in ways which can promote healing, pain relief and recovery of energy. The experience of a treatment is one that is gentle, subtle and relaxing and it is these features that make Bowen Technique so special. Many professionals such as osteopaths, sports therapists, physiotherapists and chiropractors now also use the Bowen Technique and many are amazed at the effectiveness of this gentle form of 'hands on' therapy.
What does a treatment involve?
A treatment takes from 45 minutes to one hour and treatment can be performed through light clothing. Two to three treatments, at weekly intervals, are often all that is required to achieve lasting relief from even long standing pain - although occasionally further treatments may be required for more serious conditions.
How does it work?
The practitioner uses their thumbs and fingers on precise points on the body to make rolling type moves which aim to disturb the muscles, soft tissues and energy within the body. During treatment there are periods when you will be left to rest, thus allowing the body to absorb the gentle moves that have been carried out. This enables the body time to make subtle and fine adjustments to relieve tension, reduce pain and initiate the healing process. The Bowen Technique encourages the body to realign itself and you will find there are no manipulations or adjustments of hard tissues and no force is used whatsoever.
What can the Bowen Technique safely treat?
The commonest problems most practitioners treat are back and neck pain, knee problems, sport injuries, repetitive strain injury (RSI), frozen shoulders, tennis elbow and respiratory conditions. Other conditions that have also responded favourably are chronic fatigue, headache, hayfever, kidney problems, and problems related to lymphatic drainage. Many people have used the Bowen Technique as a form of stress management and health maintenance - seeing their practitioner 2 to 4 time a year. The Bowen Technique is generally regarded as safe and effective for people of all ages.
